SYNOPSIS

Krump is one of the hardest disciplines the dance world has to offer – a kind of Molotov cocktail of contemporary dance.

Nadine Gerspacher successfully teamed up with Arias Fernandez on her new piece RE., bringing a specialist on board who creates the greatest possible contrast to the nuanced and complex dance language of the Freiburg native dancer and choreographer, using this raw and explosive street dance style, which emerged in L.A. at the beginning of 2000 and is sometimes reminiscent of voodoo ceremonies and exorcisms. Together, with their duet, the two explore the diverse polarities of a society deeply divided by the Corona crisis and the individuals living in it.

RE-Set button, which brings the turmoil of the pandemic to a standstill and, through a kind of reconfiguration, offers the possibility of a new beginning.

With impressive, sometimes subtle, sometimes extreme imagery, RE. leads the audience through cycles of oppressive and liberating moments, from apparently hopeless situations to unexpected solutions. A heavily minimalistic composition and imagery, drawing attention to detail which brings emotional expression to the fore.

The creation of polar stresses and their subsequent dissipation give RE. rhythm and structure, and serves as a source for the extraordinary dance movement repertoire.

“There seems to be no limits to the choreographer’s imagination.
The virtuose drive of repulsion and attraction to the rhythmically increasing
sound of Josep Maria Baldomà almost takes your breath away.”
